Dogs have a habit of peeing on an area to mark their territory. This type of behavior can become problematic if unregulated. One couple has this type of problem with their dogs Pacco and Jackson.
A dog trainer named Victoria Stilwell went to the couple's place to give them some training advice. Victoria saw how overwhelmed the couple was. They have four dogs, three cats, a kid. All that while they also have fulltime jobs.
Victoria showed Nicole, one of the owners, how to keep the dogs' peeing habits under control. After the dogs have had their meals, Nichole and the trainer walked the dogs outside for five minutes until they pee. The owner needs to condition the dogs to do scent marking outside the house.
After that walk, Victoria wanted to test how quick Pacco and Jackson were when marking new things. She brought new things inside the house and placed them on the floor. Pacco quickly positioned his legs to start marking, but Victoria startled him.
The trainer made some noise before the dog could pee. It was her way of conditioning the dog to avoid marking new objects. Victoria also asked Nichole to do the same thing. The dogs have to realize that there are still eyes on them even if no one was watching.
During moments when both owners are at work, they need to place Pacco inside a pen. Gradually, the couple should give Pacco more space depending on how well he behaves. Once Victoria left, it's up to the couple to continue the training.
Since Victoria's last visit, Pacco, and Jackson only had one marking incident inside the house. The owners have been following the advice given to them. They have shown progress in curbing the dogs' marking habit.
