Passionate individuals fill the world with the aim to help improve the lives of others. Adopted fourteen-year-old Meena Kumar dedicates her teenage years helping out senior dogs in her town to get a second chance in living happy lives with families to take care of them.
To date, Meena Kumar raised an estimated $14,000 from her pet-sitting business. All proceeds go to helping senior dogs at a local nonprofit organization. According to Meena, her passion for helping senior dogs rooted in her own experience as an adopted child. Her family adopted her at the age of two after social workers found her abandoned in a basket at a school grounds in India.
Her adoptive parents first observed her love for dogs during their visit to her grandparents' house. The young Meena saw her grandparents' dog and her litter of puppies. She loved dogs since. When the Kumars moved to San Jose, California, Meena continued her devotion to dogs by spending her weekends at the local humane society.
She saw the grim reality of the lives of abandoned and abused dogs. She felt as though she should save at least one of these poor animals. At age eight, she convinced her parents to adopt Bambie – their first pet. Through the years, she convinced her mom and dad to take more, but they refused.
Her passion did not die down – instead, she found a new way to help dogs. Meena learned about Muttville, a Francisco-based senior dog rescue shelter. The said place takes in senior dogs abandoned because of their bad health conditions. Meena decided to help these senior dogs get a second chance in life.
Through a pet sitting service business called Pet Fairy Services, which she started herself, she contributed much to the welfare of the senior dogs in Muttville. Ever since she started her small business, she generated more than $14,000 to the shelter. Meena continues to help the senior dogs up for adoption – saying she won't stop until more dogs find another loving family who'll take care of them.
